The little girl with the Haribo stayed with me overnight.
The more I thought about it, the more I realised that the principles behind one of the world’s most enduring consumer brands are remarkably relevant to branded residences.
Haribo built a complete world. The product, colours, bear, packaging and rituals all belong to the same story. Each encounter reinforces the next until recognition becomes instinctive.
Branded residences have an infinitely richer canvas.
Architecture, landscape, arrival, natural and artificial light, the pace and language of service, daily rituals and even one’s neighbours can all express the same coherent idea.
One of the simplest and most thoughtful concepts I have encountered comes from Autograph Collection Hotels. They call it The Mark: a signature moment that captures the soul of a property and leaves a lasting imprint. It may be a space, an object, a ritual or a person, but it becomes inseparable from the place itself.
We have adopted that thinking in our own work.
Once the brand platform is established, we develop The Mark as the thread running through the residential experience. Its expression may shift across architecture, service, landscape, times of day and moments in the owner’s journey, but it must remain immediately recognisable and absolutely singular.
We are currently creating the brand platform for an ultra luxury wellness hotel and residential community centred on complete rejuvenation in nature.
The Mark begins with a walk.
Every resident’s first journey through the landscape is led by a renowned healer whose practice is rooted in nature, intuition and renewal. There is no tour, explanation or prescribed route. The family moves quietly until one tree or secluded clearing feels distinctly their own.
There, the healer leads a private ritual and a native seed is planted, marking the beginning of the family’s relationship with the place.
The ritual is revisited at significant moments: a birth, an anniversary, the arrival of a new generation.
Over time, the landscape begins to hold the family’s history. The tree grows. The clearing gathers memories. What began as a walk becomes where birthdays are celebrated, difficult decisions considered and grandchildren introduced to the land.
The residence enters the family’s own mythology.
This is where branded residences move beyond recognition. A name may create confidence, but the deeper bond is formed through experiences that become personal.
Perhaps that is what the little bag of Haribo brought back to me. Its details were instantly familiar, yet the memory it released belonged entirely to me.
A residence capable of doing the same has found its place in a family’s life.
