Amortality

“You are entitled to your own opinion,
but you are not entitled to your own facts.”

— Daniel Patrick Moynihan

“We risk being the first people in history to have been
able to make their illusions so vivid, so persuasive,
so ‘realistic’ that they can live in them.”

— Daniel J. Boorstin, The Image: A Guide to
Pseudo-Events in America (1961)

When I hear people start a sentence with “but people are very complex…” I can guesstimate who they voted for. No doubt, humans are complicated creatures; drowning in some form of drama half the time and exhilarated by one pleasure or another at other times. This is all good, if this is how you personally choose to live.

What is not ok is using our (tamable) mind as an excuse to take liberties on what is right and wrong, what is ethical and what is not. These are simple pillars of human life.  The issue is that half of the nation who still abide by these principles have gone either numb or deaf, or both, under the current administration.

If you are ever in doubt, the simple rule of thumb is Complexity and Morality are mutually exclusive!

“Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away” Will Smith
